What is Value-Added?
Value-added analysis is a statistical method that helps educators measure the impact schools make on a student's academic progress rates from year to year. Lubbock ISD is using the SAS Education Value-Added Assessment System (EVAAS®) methodology developed by Dr. Bill Sanders to calculate its value-added reports.
Simply put, value-added analysis shows the impact teachers and schools have on students' academic performances. Using this growth metric, teachers, schools, and districts can begin interpreting the impact of their curriculum, instruction, programs, and practices on student achievement.

Teachers are better able to:
- Monitor students’ progress ensuring growth opportunities for ALL students
- Predict students’ future academic performance
- Modify instruction to address all students’ needs
- Align professional development efforts in the areas of greatest need
District and building administrators are better able to:
- Measure the impact of educational practices, classroom curricula, instructional methods and professional development
- Make informed, data-driven decisions about where to focus resources to help students make greater progress and perform at higher levels
- Benchmark progress against other districts and schools
- Identify best practices and implement more effective programs for students
When used with other data sources, value-added information provides one of the most insightful indications of a school’s impact on student learning across grades and subject levels.
